Fake Ray-Ban Sunglasses Online Email

A few variations of emails claiming to sell Ray-Ban sunglasses have been caught by MailShark spam filters. Ray-Bans are a brand of sunglasses most popular for their Aviator and Wayfarer styles. They are popular worldwide. Do not trust the contents of these emails – keep reading to find out why.

9 September 2015 Update: MailShark received a response from Ray-Ban on this scam report. The following is the response:

Hello MailShark,

Unfortunately that is not our official site and we are not affiliated with them at all. Please see the list of our authorized dealer. We are working to shut these fake sites down. We have forwarded the site you provided to our security team. Please contact your bank right away if you made a purchase.

For the first version, Figure A is a copy of the email in question. The branding is outdated and way off for the modern and stylish brand. The imagery used is poor quality and the offer in the email is selling “Ray-Bans” at 91% off. The subject line reads “Ray Ban sunglasses Online” and the sender is shown as “Naomi” – the email address is no way associated with the official Ray-Ban website which is a clear indication this offer is fake.

Clicking on any of the links contained in the email takes you to a fake site, shown in Figure B.

For the second version, Figure C is a copy of the email in question. The branding is a little more updated together with more updated sunglasses images. The imagery used has improved presenting models wearing the sunglasses while still selling “Ray-Bans” at 90% off.

The subject line reads “Ray-Ban Eyewear” and the sender is shown as “Rhoda” – the email address is no way associated with the official Ray-Ban website which is a clear indication this offer is also fake.

Clicking on any of the links contained in the email shown in Figure C takes you to a similar fake site, shown in Figure D.

For the third version, Figure E is a copy of the email in question. The branding is non-existent, just the mention of the word “Ray-Ban” together with sunglasses branded with the Ray-Ban logo on the side.

The subject line of this email variation reads “Great Discount, Gorgeous SunGlasses 86% OFF Today” and the sender is shown as “Summar Sunglasses” – the email address is no way associated with the official Ray-Ban website which is a clear indication this offer is also fake.

Clicking on any of the links contained in the email shown in Figure E takes you to a similar fake site, shown in Figure F.

It is extremely unlikely to purchase such a reputable brand at such a largely discounted price. The price, among other reasons pointed out above, lead us to believe these emails are selling fake Ray-Bans to unknowing customers. Do not trust anyone selling cheap goods that aren’t from reputable stores. Ray-Ban has official stockists and would never need to discount their products so heavily.

If you are ever in doubt when shopping online, you are safer to not complete the purchase and do your research first. We cannot say for sure, but purchasing from these websites may lead to the stealing of your personal or credit card information, a malicious attack on your computer, as well as counterfeit products being received – if they are received at all!

We recommend shopping from reputable websites and brands – especially when it comes to online shopping.
