Kohl’s Gift Card Email Scam

This email offers a free gift card that must be claimed online to spend at Kohl’s. Kohl’s is an American department store retail chain. Do not open this email and delete it if received it is attempting to infect your computer with malware.

Figure A is a copy of the email in question. It is well branded to convince the receiver to click through and even includes your name (which we blacked-out for privacy reasons). The subject line reads “ATTN: Your claim ID: DSJH822 expires soon” and the sender is shown as “Kohls Gift” but the email address is in no way associated with the official Kohl’s website. There are several dangerous links in this email which will lead you to a malicious website.

The whole email is trying to trick you into clicking through by offering a free gift voucher – all you have to do is click the call-to-action button and claim it online! Don’t fall for it. You will be lead to a dangerous website.

Figure B below is a screenshot of the malicious website the links in this email lead too. It is again well branded and convinces you to click through again. Clicking anywhere on this page is extremely dangerous – your computer is already at risk. The simple question asked on the page has a sole purpose of getting you to click through. Everything on this web page is a fake advertisement – you will not receive a gift card if you continue.

As usual, delete this email if you receive it and do not click any links. Scam emails are becoming more and more convincing, so just remember if it’s too good to be true, it normally is.
