The Latest on the Home Depot Data Breach

The Home Depot data breach looks to have been caused by the same malware responsible for a major data breach at Target in the USA. The malware, called BlackPOS, was able to be uploaded to a Target PC via a phishing attack. Whilst the exact nature of the Target infection is still being investigated, it appears that the cause of infection was from one PC used by a contractor. This highlights the dangers of phishing emails. The Krebs on security website has the latest details on the Home Depot data breach. US banks are now seeing PINs being changed on Debit cards as a consequence of the data breach.
