Woolworths $100 Gift Card Email Scam

Woolworths $100 Gift Card Email Scam

Spam filters have stopped the latest Woolworths supermarket gift card scam attempt in its tracks. The email states to offer a free $100 gift card – all you need to do is visit the website. Everyone loves a freebie, but don’t be fooled by this one or click anywhere in this email!

The email subject reads “Get your WoolWorths Giftcard here” and is said to be sent from “Woolworths Giftcards”. When looking at the sender’s email address you can clearly see it is not an email associated with Woolworths (an Australian supermarket).

Please refer to Figure A for a copy of the email. The majority of the email is sent as an image and clicking anywhere on the image will open the malicious website. The image is well presented with appropriate branding and graphics to match the Woolworths brand, this is to entice a click through. There are also two other dangerous links below the image.

Some other points to consider when noting it is a scam include:

  • Woolworths has been spelt in two inconsistent ways (Woolworths & WoolWorths)
  • Poor grammar and spelling
  • Lack of personal greeting
  • Consider the chances you would be receiving a $100 gift card for no valid reason

Do not click anywhere in this email and delete it from your inbox. Do not even click to unsubscribe as it is another attempt to lead you to the malicious website. Be wary of any future emails reaching your inbox offering freebies of any kind.
